I’ve decided I’m just going to start my year in review now. There is so much to cover and coming back from a serious depressive episode really set me back with my updates here. The last post covered Cherry Fest in Traverse City, MI. I would love to pop up there again next year, drop a comment to let me know if you’d be interested in coming with me!
I’ve had a goal this year to try 30 new food places. After visiting each new place, I jot it down on a piece of paper and put it in a jar. I’ve started adding anything new I do this year as well. The idea behind this is on New Year’s Eve/Day I want to dump out the jar and review everywhere I was able to go, try and do in 2024! I have already got a ton in the jar and still have more adventures planned for the rest of the year.
In between traveling up North and heading over to Wisconsin for my 25th high school reunion, I was able to visit a couple new places with my Bestie JL. I also did a couple of fun creative projects. I’ll start with those first.
I’ve really gotten back into fun jewelry, especially earrings! I raided the local craft market in TC during the festival and needed to make more room to help display them so they didn’t end up all jumbled in a pile on my dresser. Years ago I saw something on Pinterest and decided to recreate it. I was able to find some old photo frames, got some screen from the local hardware store, and grabbed some glue and got to work. This is the final result and I’m super happy with it!
Another project I saw whilst doom scrolling was using window film on your sunroof! I chose a pattern I had used in a bathroom years ago and put it up while I waited for my clothes to dry at the laundromat. It was so easy to do and 12/10 recommend if you want a fun pop of color in your car.
Okay, now on to the restaurants! JL and I fell head over heels in love with Paradise Cafe in Dearborn, MI. This Pakistani/Indian fusion restaurant has it all. Food, drinks, vibe, and even a High Chai!! During our first visit we arrived too early for the High Chai (it starts at 5pm) but stayed and spilt a couple of appetizer platters. One of those being the loaded fries with crispy butter chicken on top. Ya’ll this was the first time I tried butter chicken and I was legit mad at myself for waiting this long. It was stunning! It is an alcohol free environment and their mocktails are out of this world. We ended up loving it so much, we went back two weeks later for their High Chai service. $25 for unlimited food and chai is such a steal and such a fun way to try many different food items. 16/10 recommend for a friend or partner date spot!
For the next place we headed out to Shelby Township, MI to Rose House Brunch. This place is so freaking cute. Caters to the instagram girlies for sure. Go for the aesthetics, stay for the amazing food! I got some Eggs Benedict (another first for me!) and the strawberry pancakes. JL tried their chicken and waffles. If I remember correctly I tried the Blood Orange Mule mocktail and JL got the Lavender Butterfly mocktail. I do remember we both liked them very much. As far as the vibe and food. 10/10 recommend and will most likely return!
What places have you tried around the Detroit Metro area? Let me know in the comments as I’m always looking for more places to add to my list!
Until Next Time,
Sarah
That high chai sounds phenomenal!!! Thai Rose was my recent standout in MI eats… and, of course, our Mexican meal with the murals!🫶
Nothing beat the table murals at Azteca!! hahaha That is a highlight of this year for sure!
